Environmental

Coherent is dedicated to being a catalyst for environmental improvement in our industry - identifying and exploring ways to reduce the global footprint of our facilities and to improve the efficiency of our laser products.

Laser technology is, by its nature, energy-intensive. The single biggest impact Coherent can make on the environment is to improve the efficiency of our laser products. We have invested extensively in research and development over our history to develop lasers with improved performance, operating lifetime, and utility efficiency (power and water). The new technologies have enabled significant reductions in power consumption for our customers and our operations. We have also developed laser-based materials processing applications that increase efficiency and reduce pollution in diesel and gas turbine engines.

Employee Safety & Development

Coherent’s commitment to Safety - the safety of all our stakeholders, including employees, customers, and the public, is of great importance to Coherent. Our goal is to continuously improve our safety program by evaluating our operations and, where possible, incorporate advances in technology, work practices, and understandings in safety and health sciences. Coherent has established a strong safety culture at all of our facilities, and believe that injuries and safety incidents are preventable. Safety performance is consistently evaluated through regular facility audits and detailed assessments of any safety incident. Coherent strongly believes that business is strengthened by integrating safety directly into operations and are committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all of employees.

Legal Compliance

Coherent operates facilities in twelve countries on three continent and is committed to complying with the letter and spirit of the laws in the countries where Coherent operates and to attaining the highest ethical standards in the conduct of business and in interactions with customers, suppliers, competitors and the public.

Coherent maintains a global environmental management program, intended to ensure compliance and to develop ways for Coherent to be a “greener” corporate citizen. Coherent complies with all application environmental regulations such as RoHS, WEEE, and REACH.

Battery Collection & Disposal

Where Coherent has placed equipment containing industrial batteries, Coherent recognize the obligation under the ‘Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulation, 2009.Therefore, Coherent will collect, free-of-charge and within a reasonable time, waste industrial batteries supplied to an end user for treatment and recycling in countries governed by this regulation.

If any customers under the jurisdiction of this or the EU Directive on Batteries and Accumulators and Waste Batteries and Accumulators (2006/66/EC) regulation require Coherent to take back Industrial batteries, they should contact the local Coherent office in country to arrange for the return, treatment, and recycling of the waste industrial batteries.
